The Sit-down Area

[Around Back]
The Split boulder

[To Druid's Circle]

About the Area:

Another of my favorite places, though a little off the beaten track. Definitely come here. You'll find a little of everything here. Sit downs, hard traverses, straight-ups, short impossible sequences, overhangs, and cracks! The boulder that you see here is the first one you'll see from the road as you drive up. On the opposite side of the road you'll find Druid's Circle. Behind this boulder are more excellent bouders.

This boulder provides a fun traverse along the obvious crack that ends in a unique high step exit. The exit is a little phsychological since you have to go for a hod that you can't see, and the landing is close enough to another boulder to be scary. I call this boulder the Split Boulder because it is split in half vertically. The part that is painted red I call the first half, and the part that lies to the left of it is the second half.

The second half contains an excellent traverse that is low to the ground, and technical. Try linking both halves! Note: If you visit the Acknowledgments page you'll see a picture of me on this route!

The Crack that divides these two boulders is wide enough to walk throuhg, and contains some routes on the overhanging side. There is an insidious straight up problem that involves a full body length surge to the lip from a thin left hand hold and a high left foot placement! Hard! It also contains a very difficult traverse that is made even more difficult because you have to squirm around a tree trunk that is very poorly placed.
