This is John Sherman's entry in the How To Rock Climb Series, and is
by far the best in the series. I doubt if there is anyone who
knows more about the ins and outs of bouldering than John Sherman. Perfect
for both the beginner and the expert, this book is full of practical tips
and training ideas. Chock full of inspiring photos.

This book is a must for the serious boulderer. John Gill is the grandfather
of bouldering. He did first ascents of V4s in the late 1950s, well before
anyone had climbed 5.12 routes. The book includes many pictures of Gill on
his first ascents throughout the country. Unfortunately for us, the closest
Gill problems are at the Gunks. This book includes photos of Gill on his
classic Gunks problems Double Clutch, Keyhole, and The Gill
Egg. It also has photos of Gill on two other problems in the Gunks.

If John Gill is the grandfather of bouldering, then John Sherman is the father
of bouldering. This is a phenomenal book that many boulderers refer to as
the bible. Part history, part guidebook, Sherman does an amazing job of providing
beta, while respecting the rich history of each area. Filled with many excellent
photos, this book will give you the itch to get out and boulder.

This book could have been much better than it is. Bobbi is well known as
a top boulderer, however, this book does not provide the reader with much
insight. Although the pictures are excellent, captions would have been nice.
The pictures may inspire you to try the problems she is on, but you do not
know where they are. The section on Bobbi's training regime that she used
to redpoint her first 5.13c has no place in a book about bouldering.

Although not specifically about bouldering, this well written book provides
excellent insight in how to train. Whether training for your first 5.12 or
V5, this book will provide you with the tools to train properly.
The examples provide direction to climbers of all abilities and physique.
Overall, a well researched and easy to read training manual.
